SwissMarine was established in 2001 as a freight operator, offering transportation services on capesize and panamax size vessels to mostly European based coal power stations and steel mills as well as miners for their raw material transportation needs. Over the years, the company has significantly expanded both in terms of size but also in its product offerings.
Today, the company operates out of five worldwide offices (Bermuda, Geneva, Singapore, Copenhagen and a representative office in Tokyo), has a professional staff of over 50 employees and has expanded into supra/handymax size vessels. In 2018 it transported 122.2 million metric tons of cargo worldwide. Since 2011 the company has established a shipowning arm investing in secondhand and newbuilding tonnage.
In the panamax and supramax sector, our focus centers on the inbound coal trades into the West Coast of South America and the coal export out of Colombia and the Baltic area mainly into Europe.
On the capesize sector, our focus also mirrors our smaller bulks in focusing on the west coast of South America ( focusing on outbound Iron Ore ) as well as coal export out of Colombia. In addition, being one of the largest worldwide carriers in this segment, we have a strong presence in almost all trade flows and are a major transporter to some of the world s largest coal and iron ore users and producers.
On 13 september 2019, SwissMarine was acquired by Singapore Marine (www.singapore-marine.com) a company created by our former Managing Director Peter Weernink with a number of prominent investors.
The companies operations are continuing as before whilst being integrated with those of Singapore Marine.
